Suddenly Single Journey Custom Necklace Giveaway!
Author: thenicknick
When I was a teenager, I didn’t have the normal room filled with posters of actors or rock stars. Instead, I had a bulletin board filled with words of inspiration. I clipped and kept any number of quotes that meant something to me.
Along the way I discovered a brief article in Reader’s Digest. I don’t remember the title, but the content struck me. The article spoke about how so many people think that happiness is about reaching certain milestones. They treat life like a train ride and when they reach a certain stop they expect to find this elusive happiness…when they graduate or get a certain career or that promotion or get married or have children… The list was endless. The point, however, is that life and happiness are about enjoying the journey.
I have tried to embrace that in my life. When I was married, I lost that for many years. I was so determined to make the marriage work. I kept thinking that that we’d be happy when we hit those various milestones. I thought he’d settle down if we moved away from the bars, or once we had kids. I thought we’d finally have the marriage I wanted if we moved away from our past. But the man was the same. The relationship never improved. I let happiness slip away. I had moments of happiness. I was content, but I wasn’t enjoying the journey.
Life is different now. I am truly happy. I am enjoying the journey, the way life was meant to be. That’s what life is, a journey and not a destination. And that’s why when I had the opportunity to work with Natasha Vaughn of Frostings to design a custom piece, that’s the inspiration I wanted to impart. The sailboat, well, we’re all about boats. We always have been.
I wear my necklace just about every day. And I’d love for one lucky reader to have one, too.

For me hapiness is a clean bill of health. Let me explain…
The last 6-7 weeks have been rather stressful for me and my family. Filled with anguish and fear of what may be. I discovered a lump in my breast and had to have a mammogram. The results of that were indecisive so then I had an Ultrasound which also gave no relief to the situation. An MRI was recommended with dye to help highlight any “bad” areas. Only a few people no my reaction to dye in the past has been less then favorable- I am pretty severely allergic. So my fears mounted…
Also fresh on my mind is my cousin who was diagnosed with breast cancer(but has been good for 8 years now) and a close friend I work with who was diagnosed right about the time I found my lump. Long story short- I received the news yesterday that everything is ok. There is no sign of cancer!
So my hapiness like I said is my good health. I am ready to go out and scream to the world that I am going to be ok. I can’t wait to get outside this weekend and celebrate! I want to feel the sun on my back and the wind in my hair. God has blessed me and saved me from what could have been a nasty diagnosis.

Happiness to me is snuggling with both of my sons watching one of their favorite TV shows. Hearing them giggle and feeling them against me makes my heart sing.

This is such a cool one, Nicki, and has such meaning behind it. Happiness is the here and now, past all the pain and struggles, to where we’re meant to be. Firmly planted. Cheers to that.

Right now, moments of happiness are few and far between. However, watching everything start to go green, seeing the trees blossoming, and taking in the fresh mountain air has kept me focused. My journey seems to have many more steps in order to get to happier times, but seeing everything come back to life makes me feel a sense of calm — a sense that everything will be alright in the end.

Happiness, for me, is watching my baby boy (Lord it kills him when I call him that but he will ALWAYS be my baby) get ready to graduate from high school. The journey to get here wasn’t always easy, but I am so proud of him and the person I have watched him grow up to be. It is an honor to be his mom and every step of the journey, easy or not, was worth it. We’ve had some amazing adventures together and I am so glad we stopped to savor the little moments along the way, because 18 years goes by way too fast. We’ve created some fantastic memories.
Happiness is also knowing that new adventures are around the corner as he begins to make is way in the world.

OMG I must have zeece. We would be tweensies.
Shall I remind you that you were my first blogging buddy?
Having said that. My journey is just beginning. When my father died in my arms, I knew life was not being lived but was not sure how to live.
It was an eye opener but not a life changer. Yet.
When my FIL died in my arms, it was the wake up call. He had 7-10 days to live. On day 10 he died with KFRC playing “That’ll be the day”.
I immediately took singing lessons. And I reconnected with friends I’d long let go.
A couple years later, I started blogging because I have something to say.
And as you know, this is now year 2 this month for me blogging. My journey is just beginning.

Happiness, I always thought, was something to look for, that I hadn’t just found yet. But, over the last few years, life has taken its toll and troubles out on me. But things can happen to you, or if you think it in another way, it can happen for you. It was when things were hardest that I was happiest. It was then I realized that I was worth something. That I had strength and something of value. My friends came through in droves, including you, and no matter how far, I felt the love. I realized happiness was around me the whole time, it had found me. It was never something I had to find, but to cultivate. Something that could be with me, always. I could always be happy in any place, or circumstance. The Beatles had it right… All you really needed… was love.

Tweeted and we’re already connected on the FB.
I would have written about happiness (missing) or my journey (stuck), but I’m feeling a bit delicate at the mo. You understand, I’m sure.
Out of curiosity, what is the quote on the necklace?

This is a great giveaway! Life is definitely a wild journey, to say the least. I have had more than my share of hard times…just as everyone else has. I had a very difficult time pulling myself up by the boot straps and moving forward, but I am very happy to be able to say that I am finally in a good place. I do not take one single second for granted. Thanks for the great inspiration!

I’ve also found it very true that if we live for those milestones we forget to enjoy the footsteps in-between.
I’ve learned over the years, being an Army Wife, that I have to celebrate each day I have with my soldier as I never know what tomorrow brings.
Nik, I wish you all the best that life has to offer. Enjoy each and every moment.
