Happiness is having something to look forward to…
Thursday, April 1st, 2010
And I have a lot to look forward to.
Today I’ll be having my second body wrap…wait for it…before we leave for the beach in the morning. But wait! There’s more! And while we’re there, on Friday at 4pm, we’ll be meeting with the event planners.
Yup. We’re really doing it. We’re going to get married. We’re going to set a date and make some plans and everything. Wow. I really am going to get to wear that dress. It’s a good thing. The dress is fabulous. And since so many of the blog family are eager to see it on me, I’ll be trying it on for my mother over the weekend and taking pictures to email. I can’t post them or there’s a chance HE will see and he wants it to be a surprise…and he’s a little superstitious. So, if you want in on the mass email, drop me a comment over on Wedding Journeys and I’ll add you to the list.
As for the rest of the trip…well, I’m obviously looking forward to it. We’re eager to include mom on the wedding planning, but even more…I only see her about once year. I know that doesn’t seem so bad to some people who never get to see their families and at least I still have one parent. (My father passed away when I was fifteen.) Still, there are times that I wish we weren’t separated by 1000 miles.
And my aunt, who will also be there, I haven’t seen for a couple of years. She was my favorite aunt growing up. I absolutely adored her. I read all her books. I used to sleep over at her apartment. When she lived with us for a bit after she separated from her husband, I was in heaven. She would curl my hair with a curling iron and all kinds of stuff. (See, I have a long history of punishing my hair…)
On top of all that, the beach is therapy for me. I love love love walking around collecting sea debris. I love walking the beach. I love the sound of the waves as they crash against the shore. WE have some of our happiest memories there. And I am really looking forward to making more. I’m looking forward to him getting to know my family better. (My aunt has never met him.)
This is only our second trip with the kids. Our first was an overnight close to home at Great Wolf Lodge. We had a blast. (Yeah, I know, water theme…) And we were supposed to take them to the beach last year, but life got in the way, our break up got in the way, and now…no more break ups.
So, I guess this means I’m looking forward to making more memories with the kids. He is getting closer to them all the time. He is adapting to having them around, to being a step-dad. He’s offered to help with Rachel’s transportation this summer when she gets a job. And while that might seem like nothing to you, it’s huge to me. I’m so used to doing everything all the time. I’m not used to having someone share the kid burdens, the kid responsibilities.
This weekend is going to be huge and special and fun. I can’t wait.
