All on account of snow…
Author: thenicknick
Yeah, we JUST had snow two weekends ago. It lasted long enough for a snow day on that Monday. And now the kids are supposed to go on this Monday, President’s Day, to make it up. In theory. Right now, it’s snowing again.
And I like snow…a little. I like having a few nice lasting memories with the kids. I like making snowmen and sledding. I like snuggling on the couch and watching movies and eating soup while covered in blankets. All of that…good.
One problem. We have plans for the weekend. We have plans that involve driving. Lots and lots of driving. And living in a city that is utterly unprepared for inclement weather means that these plans may have to be altered significantly. (Good thing I’m spontaneous.) So, fingers crossed…the weekend may go on as planned, or it may be something different and better.
See, we pulled out the lists the other night. This is our Year of the Lists, the year we follow our fancy and create a new dream. It’s going to be an amazing year of new experiences together. And we’re very excited. This is what we hoped to do this weekend based on our lists…
- Goodwill hunting
- used book store browsing
- new coffee shop exploring
- IKEA experimenting
- Trader Joe’s shopping
That was our plan for today. We’ll see. There will be pictures no matter what. All I know is that it might be more challenging for me to do this if I’m still grounded. (The new guy is sooo cute…and protective.)
He was all sniffly last night and I had some Zicam that I was going to drop off since I had to go out to return the movie anyway. We watched The Invention of Lying. Ho hum. That’s all. Really. Literally minutes before I was going to walk out the door, he called.
NG: What you doing?
me: Heading out to see you and drop off the movie.
NG: You need to stay home.
me: But you’re sick and you have a busy weekend ahead of you. You need to experience the magic that is Zicam.
NG: I’ll live. Stay home.
me: But I have to return the movie. It’s due back by 9pm.
NG: Girl, you need to stay home. Your kids need you. Stay home.
me: So, I’m grounded.
NG: *chuckle* Uh huh.
me: You’re taking away my car privileges.
NG: *laughing* You know, sometimes a man just has to step up. Stay home. Be safe. I’m trying to keep you around.
And who wants to argue with reasoning like that? So, I’m in, for now. With the kids, for the weekend. And I’m pleased. This is the weekend we celebrate love, as if we need to set a special day aside for it, because sometimes we forget to express it regularly. All I know for certain is that I have never felt so loved and wanted in all my life, from the kids, to my friends, to the new guy.
Life is good…even when it gets sidetracked by a little weather. Here’s a favorite love song for everyone…

Sounds like a good list, especially the Ikea part (that is, if you get un-grounded). NG sounds awesome! Will call you later alligator.

The Invention of Lying was cute… until it went into drama mode. Which kind of killed it. It felt like they were trying too hard. I stopped being funny.
Nice to see you so happy

So glad we spoke, Pippi. You pulled me out of a potential funk.

Should the snow keep you inside, do you have plenty of hot chocolate and popcorn to go with some movies? Of course, there’s also cookie baking (you know, because it’s not like we’re watching our weight at all, right?
).

You might know this but in case you don’t – if that is nasal Zicam, they’ve recalled it since it was killing some people’s sense of smell. (This has been a public service announcement. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.)
Cute that you’ve been grounded by the new guy.

You’d think the people would have had enough of silly love songs.
I look around me, and I see it isn’t so.
