I’m a proud mama…
Author: thenicknick
I know I’ve spent a lot of time telling you about my beautiful, creative, intelligent daughter. And I know that everyone is rolling their eyes because every parent thinks that. Well, some of us are more right and honest than others.
Now, I have proof. You be the judge. Rachel had a class assignment where she had to create a “Where I’m From” poem filled with her personal experiences. And I told her I wanted to share it with the world…or at least the world wide web. Please enjoy and feel free to leave her compliments. She reads the blog daily.
I’m from gardens and
mountains
and backyard swings.
I am from marigolds,
fluffy and golden,
planted with love,
admired for a summer.
I am from the calla lillies,
pure white and the
sapling planted with
hope.
Someday it will be big and strong.
I am from Jell-o,
and tie dye, and flower
wreaths, too.
From Nicole and J.
I am from awkward-
pandas
and you-can-do-anythings,
from calm down and cheer up.
I’m from a circle, within
a circle, with no
beginning, neverending.
I am from peace
and from love.
I am from my mom’s
adopted family and from
my dad’s farm in NY.
Horses and construction,
from reunions that
end too soon and a
great-grandparent’s house
that goes on forever.
Around my neck was an
empty locket found in
a drawer,
painted gold and with a
clasp that didn’t quite
clip.
It hung over my heart.
I am from a lifetime of
sharing and caring and
loving.
And my children will, too.

Rachel, I’m so proud of you. You are so well beyond your years in your ways of thinking. How did I ever get so lucky as to have ties with you. I love you.
